چکیده

The brisk pace of research into the intricacies of gene regulation, which includes the study of epigenetic mechanisms, is rapidly expanding our understanding of the ways in which environmental influences can affect these processes. Research has revealed that environmental exposures influence biology and health among individuals by modifying epigenetic markings that are mitotically stable, thus linking early experience with future health. In addition, a growing list of studies demonstrates meiotic stability in these markers, which allows epigenetic modifications to be passed on to offspring and even grandoffspring via germline epigenetic inheritance. These findings are revolutionary, as they reveal in greater detail how the environments that individuals experience can shape their biology and health across the lifecycle and even within lineages through time. One domain of inquiry that has received less attention in the epigenetics literature, but is of increasing interest, is the potential role of epigenetic processes as links between environmental influences and patterns of health and disease found within and

The Embodiment of Race: Health Disparities in the Age of Epigenetics

The role of genetic and environmental influences on race-based health disparities has been a source of heated debate among the public health and clinical medical communities. In this article, the authors review new evidence for developmental and epigenetic origins of common adult metabolic diseases and argue that this field sheds new light on the origins of racial health disparities. African Am...

Epigenetics and the embodiment of race: developmental origins of US racial disparities in cardiovascular health.

The relative contribution of genetic and environmental influences to the US black-white disparity in cardiovascular disease (CVD) is hotly debated within the public health, anthropology, and medical communities. In this article, we review evidence for developmental and epigenetic pathways linking early life environments with CVD, and critically evaluate their possible role in the origins of the...

Epigenetic: A missing paradigm in cellular and molecular pathways of sulfur mustard lung: a prospective and comparative study

Sulfur mustard (SM, bis- (2-chloroethyl) sulphide) is a chemical warfare agent that causes DNA alkylation, protein modification and membrane damage. SM can trigger several molecular pathways involved in inflammation and oxidative stress, which cause cell necrosis and apoptosis, and loss of cells integrity and function. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is a growing research topic and is ...

Global epigenetic screening technologies: a novel tool to address cancer health disparities in high-risk population groups.

Racial, ethnic and class disparities in cancer incidence and mortality have been well documented. Disparities in the utilization of preventive, curative and treatment services among ethnic minorities have been reported. Screening can be effective at detecting cancer at treatable stages, but a large proportion of people at risk have not been screened or are not regularly screened, as recommended...

Importance of Gut Microbiota and Epigenetic Modifications in Maintaining Health or Diseases

Some organisms may modulate a healthy state or cause disorders by disruption or induction of several signaling pathways in human body. According to recent evaluations, numerous metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, mental disorders, and cancers are as the result of bacterial interactions with the host. Various species of the bacteria, called commensal microbio...
